Is Custom Made Furniture Expensive? April 25 2014, 0 Comments
I think there's a common misconception about the cost of custom made furniture. I like to tell my clients to keep things in perspective. One of the biggest benefits of custom made furniture is that it is made to your specifications. You won't find another piece of furniture that suits your tastes so perfectly. Not only will it suit your needs, but it will also suit your budget!!
Set Your Price
Custom made furniture is the only furniture (other than used) where you will be in a position to talk price. As with any custom project, you can set a budget up front and see what can be done within that budget. You will certainly not have that option in a Big Box furniture store or a department store. You might get lucky with a smaller boutique furniture store -- but even then you are paying more to begin with as they are buying in far smaller quantities than a large chain, and therefore have to sell at higher prices.
Choose Your Materials
With custom designs you are working with the materials you want. This means you can opt to go with something that will fit within your budget needs. I love to work with reclaimed wood and other reclaimed materials such as metals -- or even glass -- as they suit my sense of design style. I recommend this to my clients because reclaimed wood -- especially wood that has been exposed to the elements such as barnwood or wood from a dock -- has been seasoned to perfection. This means that it's going to last a lifetime and be more affordable than timber that has been freshly lumbered.
Choose your Size
When you decide to go with custom made furniture you will work with the designer from the onset to come up with a design that will suit your home to a tee. You will have complete control over every aspect of the piece -- from the materials used to the size and finish. I have seen many people with specific needs depending on what their lifestyle is like. One example is an over-sized dining table for hosting larger family gatherings on a regular basis.
Others have the opposite problem and are looking for a smaller table, bench or garden chair they want to fit into a unique or smaller space. I can create a piece perfectly suited to a tiny nook in your hall, a corner of a room or a large formal dining room.
Choose your Style
I love eclectic furniture and can work with you to create truly inspired pieces that can be fun and funky, classic and elegant or rustic and comfortable. Designers can work with pictures of styles you admire, a rough sketch -- or can show you some design ideas. Either way, the end result will be exactly what you wanted.
A Needle in a Haystack
You will not find the perfect piece going through the usual routine of shopping from store to store. I love shopping as much as the next person, but sometimes it becomes an exercise in futility if what you are looking for doesn't exist. I have helped many people from the San Francisco Bay Area down to Santa Cruz County cease endless shopping and finally see the piece they were envisioning come to life.
A custom piece of furniture will be hand-crafted within your budget using traditional techniques designed to withstand the hands of time. When the project is complete, you will have a one-of-a-kind piece of furniture that will be as unique as you.
